Gin Lane [Gin Lane]
a drawing (1751) by William Hogarth. It is a shocking picture of people in a London street who are too drunk to care about their homes or families. Gin, a strong alcoholic drink, was very popular at the time because of its low price, and many people in London were drinking too much of it.
